Additionally, there are 6 private schools in the community. The University of Vermont is home to more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students in Burlington. Other colleges in the area are Burlington College and Champlain College.

The Parks and Recreation division of Burlington offers a variety of sports leagues, camps, community rec center, and water activities along Lake Champlain including swimming, kayaking, and sailing. 18 parks and a 7.5-mile lakeside bike trail are also enjoyed by the community.
